Vacuum technology has significantly improved since the day it was invented. This tool was introduced as a tool used to clean homes by removing debris and dust from surfaces, floors, and has been a household item ever since.

Vacuum cleaners are available in various sizes, shapes, and models. Some are used only for our small homes and apartments, while others are massive appliances used by businesses that can handle large liters of dust before emptied.

The first manual vacuum was invented in 1860 by Daniel Hess. Later, Hubert Cecil Booth invented a power vacuum cleaner that is thought to be the original “vacuum cleaner.”

Around 1905, the first portable and commercial vacuum cleaner was designed and sold by Walter Griffiths, a manufacturer from England. Having a vacuum cleaner that was portable and easy to store was ground-breaking. Over the years, more and more domestic vacuum cleaners flooded the markets, improving peoples’ lives and the cleanliness of their homes.

With this progression of vacuum technology in mind, we can definitely say that the vacuum is at the peak of its evolution. Today, there are five different types of vacuums available.

1. Handheld Vacuums

Handheld vacuums are perfect for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. As the name suggests, this type can be held in one hand. The versatility of this vacuum is perfect for suctioning dirt in tight areas, but this version not ideal for general floor cleaning.

2. Canister Vacuums

Canister vacuum cleaners are designed to be between the upright model and the stick model. They are powerful like the upright cleaners but feature a slender frame. A separate canister is attached to a long wand, which can be used on carpeted areas and general flooring.

3. Upright Vacuums

Upright vacuum cleaners are one of the most popular and sought-after vacuum designs. This vacuum provides a standard cleaning capability and most people have had an upright vacuum at least once in their lifetime.

4. Stick Vacuums

Stick vacuums can be the least powerful type of vacuum. They have an edge for getting into narrow places and do a tremendous job on hardwood floors, area rugs, and light carpeting. Stick vacuums feature a long, stick-like handle and a slender construction.

5. Robot Vacuums

Robot vacuums are the most recent advancement in vacuum technology. Robot vacuum cleaners have gained popularity in recent years because they require little effort when cleaning the house. These vacuums are able to roam freely around your home, sucking up any small mess in its way.
